Sam George Launches New Data Plans From July 1, 2025

Ghana’s Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has officially unveiled revised data bundle packages, set to take effect on July 1, 2025. The announcement was made by Minister Samuel Nartey George (MP) during a press briefing on June 10, following consultations with the CEOs of MTN Ghana, AT Ghana, and Telecel Ghana Limited.

Key Updates:

MTN Ghana (as Significant Market Power operator):
- 15% price increase on all data bundles
- GH₵399 bundle (previously GH₵350 for 92.88GB) will now provide 214GB
AT Ghana:
- 10% price increase
- GH₵400 bundle rises from 195GB to 236GB
Telecel Ghana:
- 10% price increase
- GH₵400 bundle increases significantly from 90GB to 250GB

Consumer Safeguards & Monitoring:

The National Communications Authority (NCA) will enforce compliance starting July 1, with penalties for non-compliance.
No billing irregularities were found in Q3 2024, but quarterly billing integrity checks will begin from Q3 2025, covering popular websites and apps.

Reducing Data Costs:

Minister George also highlighted ongoing efforts to cut data-related taxes (currently 39% of pricing) and to develop a fairer telecom tariff regime in partnership with the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Energy.

“I’m serving the people of Ghana with heart and determination,” the Minister stated, emphasizing a dual focus on consumer protection and telecom sustainability.
