The decision, reportedly made by the appointing authority, has raised eyebrows within Ghana’s communications industry. Both officials had been serving in critical roles within the NCA, contributing to the regulation and advancement of the country’s telecommunications sector.
Ms. Olivia Okailey Quartey, who served as Deputy Director-General in charge of Managerial Operations, brought over two decades of experience spanning energy, manufacturing, banking, and education. Her role at the NCA focused on formulating policies and driving operational efficiency to ensure the effective regulation of the communications sector.
On the technical front, Prof. Ezer Yeboah-Boateng held the role of Deputy Director-General for Technical Operations. As a telecommunications engineer and ICT specialist, he played a pivotal role in areas such as cybersecurity, digital forensics, and telecommunications infrastructure. His expertise was key to enhancing the NCA’s technical operations and ensuring the sector’s alignment with global trends.
While no official reasons have been provided for the revocations, stakeholders in the industry are closely monitoring developments. The NCA has yet to issue a formal statement addressing the situation.
The move is expected to spark discussions about the future leadership direction of the NCA, a critical institution responsible for regulating Ghana’s fast-evolving telecommunications and broadcasting industries.
