The government, through the Finance Ministry, has announced approved rates for the reintroduction of road tolls in the country after the complete eradication of road tolls in November 2021.
The obstruction of road tolls according to government precisely the Finance minister was to ensure the free flow of cars and to intensify effectiveness.
This has steeled drivers and hawkers up as there has been a change in direction from the intended act with these road tolls being reinstated.
In a letter written to the Ministry of Roads and Highways and bearing the sector minister’s signature, Ken Ofori-Atta explained the proposed rates were for inputs provided by the Ministry of Roads so that the Finance Ministry could finish the schedule of fees.
The recent 2023 budget, which aims to generate revenue, gives life to this new project.
The letter states that all prices have increased by 88.05%, but it makes no mention of when the collection will begin.

In accordance with Mr. Amoako-Atta, motorists and drivers will no longer be required to pay the 50 pesewas and ₵1 for road fees. This comes with a modification that payment will now be made electronically.

In the meantime, the Finance Ministry has decided that heavy buses will pay GH1.5 rather than the GH2 that the Roads Ministry had originally suggested.
