Prof. Ameyaw-Ekumfi Released On GH₵10 Million Bail In Sky Train Scandal
Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Ekumfi, the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), has been granted bail of GH₵10 million by the High Court in Accra. The bail comes with two sureties, both of whom must justify their worth with landed property located in Accra.
The decision followed a robust application for bail by the professor’s legal team during court proceedings on Monday, May 26.
The 80-year-old academic and former minister is facing four charges related to the controversial Sky Train project, which saw $2 million disbursed for a proposed urban rail system that never materialised.
Prof. Ameyaw-Ekumfi has pleaded not guilty to all charges, including willfully causing financial loss to the state and the intentional misapplication of public funds.
As part of his bail conditions, he is required to surrender his travel documents, including his passport, to the court registry. He must also report to the police weekly until further notice.

Presiding judge, Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe, adjourned the case to June 10 at 10:00 a.m. for a case management conference. During this session, the court will outline pre-trial procedures and set the framework for the trial.
The bail ruling offers temporary relief to the elderly statesman, whose legal counsel cited his age, deteriorating health, and extensive public service in their plea for leniency. His lawyers also assured the court of his full compliance with the bail terms.
The first accused in the case, Mr. Solomon Asamoah, former CEO of GIIF, has also been granted bail and is reportedly adhering to all court directives.
The Sky Train case has drawn widespread public attention due to its implications for public procurement practices, financial accountability, and infrastructure investment in Ghana. The upcoming case management conference is expected to clarify evidentiary matters and shape the course of what is likely to be a closely watched trial.
