President Mahama’s Twitter Account Hacked; Details Emerge
Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama’s official Twitter account (@JDMahama) was compromised on March 16, 2025, and misused to promote a cryptocurrency scam known as “Solana Africa.”
The fraudulent posts falsely claimed that the project was led by President Mahama to facilitate free payments across Africa using the Solana blockchain.
Upon detecting the breach, President Mahama’s team collaborated with Twitter’s support to regain control of the account. On March 18, 2025, the President confirmed the restoration, expressing gratitude for the support received during the incident.
The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) of Ghana has initiated an investigation into the breach, working closely with Twitter and other relevant stakeholders to prevent future occurrences.
The CSA emphasized the importance of robust security measures for high-profile accounts to mitigate such cyber threats.
This incident underscores the growing trend of cybercriminals targeting verified accounts to promote fraudulent schemes, highlighting the need for enhanced cybersecurity protocols among public figures.
