President Mahama To Deliver First State Of The Nation Address Today
President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to deliver his State of the Nation Address (SONA) today, Thursday, February 27, 2025, before Parliament.
This address, mandated by Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, requires the President to inform Parliament about the nation’s current status and outline the government’s agenda for the upcoming year.
In his address, President Mahama is expected to focus on the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) “Resetting Ghana” agenda, which centers on three main themes.
Creating employment opportunities through initiatives like the 24-hour economy, a Women’s Development Bank, and programs focused on agriculture, industrialization, and apprenticeships. Emphasizing transparency, good governance, and anti-corruption measures, including reducing the size of government, eliminating burdensome taxes, and implementing structural reforms to promote economic stability.
Ensuring prosperity for all Ghanaians by investing in education, healthcare, and infrastructure development, as well as promoting agribusiness, industrialization, and export-driven growth.
This SONA marks President Mahama’s first address in his second term, following his historic re-election in 2024 with over 57% of the votes. He previously served as President from July 24, 2012, to January 7, 2017, and was re-elected in 2024.
The address is expected to begin at 10:00 AM and will be broadcast live across various media platforms, allowing Ghanaians and the international community to tune in.
