President Mahama Is Most Loved In Burkina Faso After Traoré – Wode Maya
Popular Ghanaian vlogger Wode Maya has revealed that President John Dramani Mahama is regarded as the second most admired figure in Burkina Faso, ranking just behind the country’s military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

In an interview with broadcaster Kafui Dey, shared on the social media platform X, Wode Maya explained that President Mahama’s popularity among Burkinabè citizens made his filming experience across the country far easier.
“After Traoré, he is the most loved man in Burkina Faso. The people see him as someone who protects their president, and that’s why they adore him,” Wode Maya noted.

He recounted an incident where a simple photograph with President Mahama became an unexpected “access pass” during his documentary work. Faced with tight police security while trying to film, he said showing the photo often won him permission.
“I have a picture with President Mahama, and they really love him in Burkina Faso. So whenever things got difficult, I would just show the photo and they let me through,” he explained. “I told my colleague, ‘this is my ID card,’ and once I showed it, the police allowed me.”

The revelation underscores the soft power and regional influence President Mahama continues to wield, especially in neighboring West African countries. Much of this admiration, according to Wode Maya, stems from perceptions of Mahama’s support for Captain Traoré and Burkina Faso’s sovereignty.
His account offers a fascinating glimpse into cross-border perceptions of leadership and how international relations can unexpectedly shape the experiences of ordinary individuals—even content creators working on the ground.
