President Mahama Finally Speaks On Petitions Against Chief Justice Torkornoo
President John Dramani Mahama has spoken publicly for the first time about the ongoing petitions seeking the removal of suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Addressing the Council of State on Monday, July 7, 2025, President Mahama described the matter as a “difficult issue” for his administration, now in its sixth month.
He acknowledged the Council’s role in the early stages of the process, which followed the establishment of a prima facie case against the Chief Justice. The president stated that the matter is now in the hands of the five-member investigative committee, chaired by Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang. “We’ve done our part. The rest is left with the committee… to come out with whatever its findings are,” Mahama said.

He added that any decisions regarding Chief Justice Torkornoo’s future will be guided by the committee’s final report.
