Gospel artiste Selina Boateng has spoken openly about the hidden struggles many couples, especially within the Christian community, face in marriage.

Speaking on Onua FM’s Efie Ne Fie with Ohemaa Acheampomaa, the award-winning singer revealed that many pastors and gospel musicians remain in painful marriages just to protect their public image.

According to her, if people could walk away from unhappy marriages without facing societal or religious criticism, divorce rates would skyrocket.

“If people had the freedom to leave, divorce cases would shoot up like gunfire. The numbers would be overwhelming,” she said.

Selina lamented how Christian women, particularly those in ministry, are pressured into silence and left to suffer emotionally.

“The saddest part is once you’re married, you can’t even talk about what you’re going through. Even those who pushed you into marriage won’t be there to console you,” she added.

She called for more compassion and understanding from the Christian community, stressing how broken marriages impact not only one’s mental health but also their ministry and purpose.

“If your marriage fails, it affects your ministry, your peace, and your purpose. That’s why we need to wake up as a church. Many women are suffering silently, and even when they speak, they are blamed and not believed,” she said.

Selina concluded by saying that if people were given the space to speak freely, many men of God and gospel musicians would admit they married the wrong person.
