Pastor Mensa Otabil Encourages Singles To Marry Without Waiting For Wealth
The Founder and General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, has encouraged single people to marry without waiting to first build wealth.
Delivering a sermon that has since gone viral, Pastor Otabil dismissed the widespread notion that financial stability must come before marriage.
He illustrated his point with a personal story, recalling how, when he married his wife, he had very little and even had to paint a bench white to serve as furniture in their home.
“If you’re waiting to be rich before you marry, then your head is not working properly,” he said. “You don’t want to marry, but you’re already living like you are. You want the benefits of marriage without going through the process. Be bold and marry.”
Pastor Otabil further assured that the church is always ready to bless couples who wish to keep their wedding simple, free from unnecessary pressures or extravagant spending.
“Set the date. If you don’t want a veil, don’t wear one; if you don’t want a gown, don’t wear it. Just come to the church office and say, ‘This is the woman I want, and this is the man I want.’ We ask, ‘Do you?’ and you say, ‘I do.’ That’s it. From there, you begin building your life together, and you’ll find that even life’s battles become easier to face,” he concluded.
