Parliament Officially Scraps E-Levy
On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, Ghana’s Parliament voted to repeal the Electronic Transfer Levy Act, 2022 (Act 1075).
Much like its initial passage in 2022, the repeal process was conducted under a Certificate of Urgency, allowing for an expedited second reading, consideration, and third reading stages.
During the second reading, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga cited an observation by the Finance Committee, noting that repealing the levy would return GH¢2 billion to Ghanaian citizens as disposable income.
With Parliament’s approval, the Electronic Transfer Levy (Repeal) Bill, 2025 will now be sent to President John Dramani Mahama for assent. Under Article 106(7) of the Constitution, the President is expected to sign the bill into law within seven days.
The E-Levy was initially introduced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government under former President Nana Akufo-Addo through the Electronic Transfer Levy Act, 2022 (Act 1075).
