Otumfuo Osei Tutu Praises Sammy Gyamfi For Contributions To Ghana’s Gold Sector
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has commended Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), for his impactful leadership and efforts to derive greater value from Ghana’s gold and mineral resources.
Speaking at the official opening of the Mining in Motion Summit in Accra on Monday, June 2, Otumfuo praised Gyamfi for championing policies focused on value addition, institutional reform, and fairer returns in the mining sector.

“Sammy, I thank you very much for this one,” the Asantehene remarked, acknowledging Gyamfi’s commitment to transforming the gold industry.
Otumfuo, however, noted that while illegal mining remains a concern, the broader issue lies in Ghana’s long-standing inability to strategically manage its natural wealth on the global stage.
“Probably the costliest effect of illicit mining, to me, is the distraction from the real challenge we face—which is how we maximize the benefits of our noble heritage. We have to be true to ourselves and admit that we have not done a good job of representing and protecting ourselves in the global marketplace,” he stated.
He stressed that the mining sector, particularly gold, presents a unique opportunity for Ghana to redefine its economic narrative.
“Through the mining industry—and gold in particular—we have the opportunity to rewrite our story, but only if we take ourselves seriously,” Otumfuo added.
The Mining in Motion Summit brought together key players in the mining ecosystem—including policymakers, investors, and traditional authorities—to deliberate on reforms for a more sustainable and beneficial future for Ghana’s mining industry.
