Otumfuo Honours Kofi Kinaata With ‘Youth In Entertainment Award’ At Millennium Excellence Awards

On Friday, May 9, 2025, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, honoured award-winning musician Kofi Kinaata with the prestigious Youth in Entertainment Award during a special edition of the Otumfuo Millennium Excellence Awards held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

Kinaata, widely celebrated for his reflective lyrics and socially conscious music, was recognized for his remarkable influence on youth and his consistent dedication to addressing social issues through his art. His works, which blend highlife and contemporary styles, often shed light on pressing societal concerns, earning him admiration as a voice for the community.

Otumfuo, who has previously praised Kinaata’s songwriting—citing his track ‘Susuka’ as “full of wisdom” during the 2024 General Conference of the Ghana Bar Association—commended the artiste once again for using his platform to inspire responsible citizenship and personal development.

This honour comes just a day before the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), where Kofi Kinaata is nominated in multiple top-tier categories including Best Highlife Artiste of the Year, Best Highlife Song, Songwriter of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Music Video, and Album/EP of the Year.

The Otumfuo Millennium Excellence Awards, a royal initiative of the Manhyia Palace, celebrates individuals who have made exceptional contributions to national development—particularly those impacting the lives of the underprivileged such as the poor, widows, and orphans.

Other notable recipients of the Lifetime Africa Achievement Prize at the event included Dr. Kwame Despite, Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, Dr. Nick Danso, CEO of Ghana Link Network Services.

The strictly-by-invitation ceremony had former President John Dramani Mahama as the Special Guest of Honour.
