NPP Struggling To Pay Workers Just Four Months In Opposition – Kennedy Agyapong Bemoans
Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has expressed deep concern over the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) inability to pay its workers just four months after moving into opposition.
Speaking at the NPP headquarters, Agyapong described the situation as unfortunate, stressing that it is not an issue unique to the NPP, but a common challenge faced by political parties once they lose power.

“It is not only unique to the NPP; every party, when they go into opposition, faces financial or resource challenges. So, I came from Madagascar, and I heard the news that for four months, we’ve not been able to pay salaries and even money for work,” he said.
In response to the party’s financial difficulties, Kennedy Agyapong donated ₵1 million to help settle salary arrears and assist in running the party’s administrative affairs. “I decided I’ll come and give my widow’s mite as a contribution to help run the administration of the party,” he added.
Agyapong lamented the fact that just months into opposition, the party was already struggling to sustain itself, emphasizing, “We just came to opposition about four months ago, and it’s sad that we cannot run the party. This is not good enough.”
Beyond the financial concerns, Agyapong also raised alarm over growing disunity within the NPP, warning that internal threats and factionalism could jeopardize the party’s chances of reclaiming power in 2028.
He cited incidents where Members of Parliament who accompanied him to visit fire victims at the Adum Market in Kumasi were later threatened. “We keep preaching unity, but the way things are going, it will be tough,” he stressed.
Agyapong criticized the selective disciplinary actions being taken against party members, pointing out that while some executives openly endorse candidates without consequence, others are threatened with disciplinary measures for similar actions.
He urged party executives to foster fairness and justice within the party, insisting that unity is the only way for the NPP to regain power.
“If NPP will come back to power, unless we are united — I insist — even if you bring Jesus Christ, without unity, we cannot win an election. Fairness and justice are key. Without them, it will be very difficult to get everybody on board,” Agyapong asserted.
The former flagbearer hopeful concluded by pleading with the party leadership to stand firm against internal pressures and work towards rebuilding the party through equity and cohesion.
