No Teacher Has The Right To Cane A Child – Yvonne Nelson Asserts
Ghanaian actress and education advocate Yvonne Nelson has taken a firm stance against corporal punishment in schools, stating that only parents—not teachers—should have the authority to discipline their children.
Speaking in an interview with Joy News, Yvonne, who runs the Yvonne Nelson International School (YNIS), revealed that her institution strictly prohibits teachers from hitting students. Instead, the school employs alternative disciplinary methods such as time-outs, counseling, and parental involvement when necessary.

She expressed confusion over why some schools still rely on physical punishment, emphasizing that it can cause lasting harm to children. At YNIS, the focus is on guiding and correcting behavior through empathy, dialogue, and non-violent approaches, which she believes are far more effective and respectful of a child’s well-being.
