Announcing the initiative on Instagram, Bassey shared that the one-day worship and praise session with inmates is his personal birthday wish this year.

“This month, on August 27, I’ll be leading my brethren in Kirikiri Medium Prison in a special Hallelujah Challenge session. It’s what I’ve desired for my birthday we’ll worship, share a meal, and offer scholarships afterwards,” Bassey posted.

He explained that the outreach is inspired by a deep desire to offer hope, spiritual freedom, and joy to those behind bars. The event will include spirited praise and worship, food distribution, and educational scholarships for selected inmates.

Referencing Acts 16:25-26 where Paul and Silas worshipped in prison and experienced divine intervention—Bassey expressed faith that this session would be a moment of powerful spiritual impact.

Due to security protocols, the session may not be broadcast live. However, he encouraged his supporters to participate in spirit and prayer. He also confirmed that the regular Hallelujah Challenge will resume in October 2025.

The announcement has been widely lauded by fans and fellow gospel artists, who have praised Bassey for extending worship to those often forgotten by society.
