Nana Aba Anamoah Backs Sam George As Data Price Debate Intensifies
Media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has come to the defense of Sam Nartey George, Ghana’s newly appointed Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, as public criticism mounts over the country’s high data charges.

Since taking office, Minister Sam George has faced intense backlash—particularly on social media—where critics accuse him of reneging on his previous promises to lower internet data costs, a commitment he frequently made while in opposition.
However, Nana Aba argues that the issue is far more nuanced.
Posting on her social media platforms, she emphasized that data pricing is governed by complex regulatory frameworks and cannot be changed unilaterally or immediately by a single minister. “It doesn’t work that way! He can’t just get up and reduce data prices because he’s a minister. Don’t judge him based on opposition utterances. The reality in governance is far more complex,” she wrote.
Her defense comes as videos resurfaced online showing Sam George criticizing former Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful for similar challenges in reducing data prices.
While acknowledging that politicians often make sweeping statements during campaigns, Nana Aba urged the public to be patient and allow the minister time to navigate the regulatory and industry processes involved. “People say what the masses want to hear during campaigns. But the job of governing is a different beast,” she added in response to a critic.
