Speaking at a gathering of traditional leaders and party faithful in Kumasi, the former president stated that contrary to claims of neglect, his government placed the Ashanti Region at the heart of its national development strategy. “No region received more attention under my administration than the Ashanti Region,” Akufo-Addo asserted. “We delivered more roads, initiated more hospital projects, and facilitated thousands of jobs for the youth here.”
Highlighting key projects, Akufo-Addo cited the rehabilitation and construction of major roads including the Anwiankwanta-Obuasi highway, the Lake Road Expansion in Kumasi, and various town roads in Bekwai, Mampong, and Ejisu.
He also referenced health infrastructure such as the ongoing construction of district hospitals under the Agenda 111 project, as well as upgrades to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
On job creation, the former president pointed to industrial initiatives in the region under the “One District, One Factory” (1D1F) program and support for youth entrepreneurship under NEIP and NABCO. “Our investments in this region were deliberate and measurable. The data supports the claim, and I am proud of what we were able to achieve,” he added.
His remarks appear aimed at addressing criticisms from some quarters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) base, who have in recent months expressed disappointment over perceived underdevelopment in the region.
