In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Dumelo assured constituents that active steps are being taken to address the burden of high rent demands, particularly those affecting the youth.

“I remember making this statement and it’s being worked on,” he wrote, referring to a 2020 tweet in which he promised to champion rent reforms if elected to Parliament. “Engagements with the ministry responsible for Housing has commenced, and in due time I will update folks on progress.”

The referenced tweet, originally shared on August 17, 2020, criticized the widespread practice of demanding two years’ rent in advance—calling it unfair and unrealistic in the current economic climate.

“We need to pay at most 6 months rent advance. How can we (youth especially) survive in an economy where we have to pay 2 years rent upfront? Not right. We dey bleed,” Dumelo tweeted at the time.

As part of his pledge, Dumelo is working to bring relief to renters and ensure fairer housing policies through collaboration with the Ministry of Works and Housing.
