Momo Fraudsters Used My Name To Scam My Mother Gh¢24,000 – Sam George
Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has shared a deeply personal account of mobile money (MoMo) fraud, revealing that his own mother was scammed of GH¢24,000 by fraudsters using his name.

In an interview with JoyNews on April 15, 2025, the Ningo-Prampram MP recounted how, shortly after his ministerial appointment, scammers posed as officials and convinced his mother to “verify” her MoMo PIN to protect her account due to her connection to him.
The incident, which he described as a wake-up call, has intensified his resolve to investigate the rising wave of MoMo fraud in Ghana. Sam George raised concerns about possible internal collusion within telecom and fintech firms and confirmed that his ministry will demand accountability from service providers on the steps they are taking to safeguard customer funds and root out any insider involvement.
