Michael Blackson Suggests Joining NDC After Receiving DDEP Coupon Payment
Ghanaian-American comedian and actor Michael Blackson has announced his support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after the government confirmed the payment of GH¢6.081 billion in Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) coupons.
In a February 17 tweet, Blackson expressed gratitude to former President John Dramani Mahama for the payment.
“Look at God, this is a very great start for all bondholders. As of today, I’m officially a member of the NDC party. Mahama, you just put a smile on the faces of the kids at my free school,” he posted.
Back in September 2024, Blackson revealed that he had invested in Eurobonds to help fund the Michael Blackson Academy in Agona Nsaba but faced challenges recovering his investment.
He accused the Akufo-Addo administration of stealing his Eurobond investment, stating that he was unable to recoup his one-year investment.
“Who’s the minister of finance in Ghana? I have beef with this guy. People of the diaspora decided to invest in our continent, and they used our money to pay their debt, giving us two options. Either take a 37% cut and receive 5% interest with an 11-year maturity date or no cut but 1.9% interest with a 15-year maturity date. I’m very disappointed in my people for this,” he posted.

In a 2025 interview, comedian Michael Blackson blamed the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government for his $1.2 million Eurobond investment being tied up in a debt restructuring program.
His investment, intended to fund his free school in Agona Nsaba, Central Region, was trapped under the DDEP during the previous administration.
He has since accused the NPP government of misusing his funds to service foreign debts, including those owed to China.
