Medikal Is My Favourite Rapper, But Sarkodie Is The Greatest – Shatta Wale

Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has openly declared Medikal as his personal favourite rapper, while hailing Sarkodie as the greatest Ghanaian rapper of all time.

Speaking in an interview with U.S.-based Ghanaian fashion critic Firestick, Shatta Wale praised both rappers, highlighting their distinct roles in Ghana’s music landscape.

“My favourite rapper is Medikal. His music speaks to the Gen Z crowd. But if we’re talking about the best of all time, that title goes to Sarkodie,” he said, citing Sarkodie’s longevity, influence, and consistency as unmatched.

Despite naming Sarkodie the GOAT, Shatta Wale believes the future of Ghanaian rap lies with Medikal. According to him, Medikal is the most natural successor if Sarkodie were to exit the scene.

“Medikal will be able to succeed Sarkodie hands down. What Medikal does is what most of the boys learn. The way he raps is how plenty of the boys also rap. It’s just that we don’t speak the truth here,” he remarked.

Shatta Wale also drew international comparisons, placing Medikal on the same level as global stars like Central Cee and Lil Baby. He emphasized that Medikal’s lyrical style is tailored to appeal to the Ghanaian market for relevance and survival.

“If Medikal doesn’t shape his lyrics to suit the Ghanaian market, he won’t eat. But in terms of skill, he’s right there with Lil Baby and Central Cee,” he explained, responding to those who claim Medikal’s rap style lacks depth.

He further praised rappers who understand the commercial side of the industry.

“I like rap music so much, but I love rappers who understand the business side of it and that’s what Medikal does,” Shatta Wale said.
