Founder and Presiding Bishop of Prosperity City Chapel International, Bishop Adongo Joseph, has linked the rise in fake prophecies to what he described as “hungry prophets” who are driven by money, relevance, and pressure from the public.

He made the remarks in an interview with MzGee on Behind The Pulpit, where he spoke openly about the challenges facing modern prophetic ministry.

Bishop Adongo explained that many prophets feel pressured to always deliver prophecies, even when they have no spiritual direction. He described this as a “performance syndrome,” where prophets feel forced to perform because people expect constant revelations.

According to him, this pressure has pushed some prophets to fabricate prophecies instead of directing people to the Bible. He advised that mature prophets should encourage believers to rely more on Scripture.

The bishop also expressed concern about unethical practices, claiming some individuals now use people to gather personal information in churches to appear prophetic.

He warned that money-driven ministry has damaged the credibility of prophecy, stressing that true prophets should trust God for provision rather than manipulate people.

“If you are a true prophet, God will take care of you,” he said, adding that desperation for money is at the root of many false prophecies today.

His comments have sparked renewed discussions about integrity, accountability, and authenticity within prophetic ministry.
