Mahama’s Sanction Against Me Harsher Than Those Imposed On Russia – Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has alleged that the sanctions imposed on him by former President John Mahama are even more severe than those the European Union has placed on Russia.

According to Wontumi, following the freezing of his bank accounts, he is struggling to meet basic needs. “If your accounts are frozen, how are you expected to survive or even eat?” he questioned.

His comments come in the wake of an attempted arrest on Friday, May 23, 2025, when the Ghana Police Service and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) raided his residence. Around 20 heavily armed officers reportedly arrived in five vehicles and commenced the operation at 9:00 a.m.

“I will report to the police headquarters because they’ve sent me a letter,” Wontumi stated. “But I have not received any communication from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB),” he added.
