Mahama Set To Launch ‘Adwumawura’ Programme Today To Address Youth Unemployment
President John Mahama is set to officially launch the government’s flagship initiative, Adwumawura, today, April 28, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi.
The event marks the beginning of a bold new campaign aimed at tackling youth unemployment and fostering entrepreneurship across Ghana.
The Adwumawura Programme is a dedicated business development initiative focused on establishing, monitoring, and nurturing at least 10,000 businesses annually, with a strong emphasis on youth empowerment.
It will be spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment through the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP).
Targeting Ghanaians aged 18 to 35, Adwumawura promises to equip the next generation with the tools needed to launch, grow, and sustain businesses — a critical step towards promoting economic independence among young people.
The programme is a major pillar of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s 2024 manifesto, reinforcing the party’s broader commitment to creating 250,000 jobs annually through initiatives such as the highly publicised Edwuma Pa programme.

Through a strong focus on entrepreneurship, skills development, and digital innovation, the Mahama administration aims to position Ghana’s youth at the forefront of national economic transformation.
Backing this ambition, the 2025 Budget Statement presented by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson in March earmarked GH₵100 million to kick-start the Adwumawura Programme.
This funding will support young entrepreneurs through comprehensive measures including skills training, mentorship, access to startup capital, and equipment provision — ensuring that new businesses are built to thrive, not just survive.
