Addressing his congregation, the Archbishop praised Mahama’s character, saying, “President John Dramani Mahama is a very humble man. He’s not arrogant, he’s not vindictive. If you knew what some people did to him, it would break your heart. He has evidence, but he’s moved past it and acts like nothing ever happened.”
He went on to recount an incident involving someone who had previously insulted Mahama while he was in opposition. Rather than respond with hostility, Mahama warmly embraced the individual.
“There was a meeting recently where I saw him meet someone who had insulted him in the past. The person tried to avoid him, unsure of what would happen. But Mahama called him over and gave him a hug,” Duncan-Williams recalled.
“The man later came to me, confused about what the hug meant. I told him, ‘It’s a sign of a true statesman. He’s bigger and better than you.’”
