Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the government has allocated GH₵225 million to assist victims of the 2023 Akosombo Dam spillage, which caused extensive destruction across the lower Volta basin.

The disaster occurred in mid-2023 following a controlled release of water from the Akosombo Dam, prompted by heavy rainfall and rising water levels. Although intended to prevent an overflow, the large-scale spillage triggered severe flooding, especially in the Volta Region.
