Addressing participants at the 12th Annual Conference of Chairpersons of Governing Boards, Councils, and Chief Executives of the Public Services of Ghana in Ho, Mahama emphasised that prompt action against such offenders would serve as a powerful deterrent to future financial mismanagement in the public sector.
He also disclosed plans to introduce constitutional measures to establish a committee responsible for enforcing the Auditor-General’s recommendations, ensuring stronger accountability in the use of public resources.
“Recently, I’ve been following the Public Accounts Committee proceedings, and it’s disheartening. Year after year, we hear of reckless handling of public funds and resources,” Mahama stated. “I have scheduled a meeting with the Chief Justice, the Attorney General, and other key stakeholders to find a lasting solution. Those found guilty of financial infractions must face a fast-track prosecution process.”
President Mahama further encouraged public sector institutions to implement the Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in operations.

He also revealed that the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill has been submitted to Parliament for consideration, urging public institutions to align their activities with the initiative to boost productivity and create employment opportunities.
