Kofi Boat Resists U.S. Extradition Over Alleged $100M Romance Fraud
Isaac Kofi Oduro Boateng, popularly known as Kofi Boat, is a Ghanaian businessman contesting his extradition to the United States over serious allegations of leading a cybercrime syndicate that defrauded individuals and businesses of over $100 million between 2016 and 2023.
Appearing before the Gbese District Court on Friday, June 20, 2025, Boat’s legal team argued that the extradition process was flawed. According to courtroom reports shared by journalist Ameyaw Debrah, the defence claimed the U.S. government had not followed proper legal procedures.

A central point in the defence’s argument was that the arrest warrant issued by U.S. authorities had not been authenticated by Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the United States a legal requirement under Ghanaian law for the warrant to be deemed admissible.

Due to this procedural objection, the magistrate adjourned the case to July 1, 2025, to deliver a ruling on the matter.
Boat, who was arrested on June 13, 2025, in a joint operation involving the Ghana Police Service, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Interpol, has denied any involvement in cybercrime. His legal team maintains that his business dealings in the United States were legitimate.
Two other individuals Derrick Van Yeboah and Inusah Ahmed, also known as Pascal and owner of PAC Academy were arrested alongside Boat. A fourth suspect, Patrick Kwame Asare, remains at large.
These arrests form part of a broader effort by U.S. authorities to dismantle Ghana-based cybercrime operations.
