“At a point, I felt it was my end. I thought I wouldn’t survive,” he recalled, reflecting on the traumatic experience.

The incident took place on December 21, 2024, during the 25th-anniversary celebration of Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II at the Kwafie Festival in Dormaa Ahenkro. Kofi was struck in the face by a musket shot, discharged at close range by a bodyguard of a local chief during a traditional performance.

He was rushed to the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital, later transferred to Berekum Holy Family Hospital, and eventually flown to Dubai for specialized treatment. The overseas medical care, including travel arrangements, was fully sponsored by businessman Ibrahim Mahama, who even offered the use of his private jet.

Kofi publicly commended Mahama for his generosity and unwavering support during his most critical moments.

Though he has not regained full vision, Kofi shared that he now has partial eyesight and can function independently.

“Now I can say that, while my eyes are not like they used to be, I can now see you if you are standing before me. I can read messages… I am able to help myself, and I am grateful for where the Lord has brought me,” he said.

He also disclosed that metallic fragments from the musket blast remain embedded in his face and may be a permanent reminder of the incident.

Kofi assured his followers that he would soon address ongoing controversies surrounding the incident and vowed to speak with complete transparency.

As his recovery continues, the veteran journalist expressed heartfelt appreciation to Ghanaians, his colleagues, donors, and all well-wishers who provided both emotional and financial support throughout his health crisis.
