Kennedy Agyapong Reportedly Withdraws From NPP ”Thank You Tour” After Supporter Stabbed
Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Kennedy Agyapong has allegedly withdrawn from the party’s ongoing Thank You Tour following a violent incident in Bantama, Kumasi, where a student supporter from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) was stabbed.
According to a Facebook post shared by Angel FM Kumasi and later reposted by Kwesi Kwarteng, former Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, Agyapong’s decision was linked to the altercation. The post included the Akan proverb “Oman bo adwo,” which loosely translates as “the nation is calm” or “at peace,” hinting at a tense or ironic undertone.
“Just In: Kennedy Agyapong withdraws from NPP’s ‘Thank You Tour’ following stabbing of KNUST Supporter,” the post stated.
Eyewitnesses reported that the incident began when a group of students tried to prevent armed individuals from seizing money allegedly distributed after the event. The situation escalated, resulting in a student being stabbed in the upper right rib area.
Members of the student group claimed the initial clash occurred inside the auditorium where NPP leaders were addressing supporters. Tensions flared further when an undisclosed amount of money—allegedly handed over to the students—was forcibly taken by unidentified armed individuals. The attackers reportedly brandished firearms and threatened the students during the incident.
As of now, neither Kennedy Agyapong nor the NPP has released an official statement confirming his withdrawal or commenting on the security concerns raised by the incident.
