Ghanaian politician and former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has donated GH¢1 million to the NPP to help settle outstanding salaries for its workers. Speaking at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Friday, April 25, Mr. Agyapong acknowledged that opposition parties typically face such financial challenges. He further revealed that upon returning from a trip to Madagascar, he felt compelled to offer financial support to aid the party’s administration.
“It becomes a challenge that affects every party. When they go into opposition, tnhey face financial or resource challenges. So, I came from Madagascar, and I heard in the news that for four months, we haven’t been able to pay salaries to workers.
“So, I decided to come with this widow’s mite contribution. We’ve been in opposition for about four months, and it’s sad that we cannot run the party, which I think is not good enough. So, my message is simple: I’ve come this morning as a contribution to enable the running of the party,” he said.
The donation is expected to help the NPP address the salary arrears owed to its staff and support the party’s operations during its time in opposition.
