JHS Dropout Rewarded with GH₵6,000 For Returning Lost Wallet
A 16-year-old junior high school (JHS) dropout has been rewarded with GH₵6,200 for his exemplary honesty after returning a lost wallet belonging to Mutaru Mumuni Muqthar, Executive Director of the West Africa Centre for Counter Extremism. The incident occurred between Gbungbaliga and Bimbila in the Northern Region.
The funds are meant to support his return to school.
On April 23, 2025, Nfoye Jonas, a resident of Kpalsogni—a village located about 20 minutes from Yendi—was running an errand on his motorbike when he spotted a purse lying by the roadside.
Without opening it, Jonas took the purse home and handed it over to his uncle, Mr. Emmanuel Bigbei. Upon discovering its valuable contents, Mr. Bigbei accompanied Jonas to Sankara Radio in Yendi, where they gave the wallet to the station’s manager, David Takal, hoping the rightful owner would come forward.

The wallet belonged to the Executive Director of the West Africa Centre for Counter Extremism. Inside were several important items, including VISA cards, GH₵ 2,530, USD 180, 2,000 CFA, a Voter ID card, a driver’s license, and a Ghana Card.
Mr. Muqthar had lost the wallet during a nighttime drive from Yendi to Wulensi while involved in a security operation in Northern Ghana. After realizing it was missing, he took to Facebook to seek public help in recovering it.
Fortunately, the manager of Sankara Radio, Mr. David Takal, came across Mr. Muqthar’s Facebook post and promptly contacted him with the good news that Jonas had found the missing wallet, fully intact.
“My team and I traveled from Wulensi to Yendi to collect the purse,” Mr. Muqthar recalled.
He expressed deep appreciation for the remarkable integrity and generosity displayed by Jonas and his family. “This is a rare and inspiring example of true patriotism and honesty,” he said.
