Jewelry Returned To Manhyia Palace, Still Claimed As Stolen – Lawyer Tells Cecilia Dapaah
In the ongoing trial concerning the theft of valuables from former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah’s residence, a lawyer for one of the accused has made a notable assertion.
Augustine Gyamfi, representing the second accused, Sarah Adjei, suggested in court that the jewelry reported stolen by Madam Dapaah actually belonged to the late wife of Otumfuo Osei Tutu I and had been returned to the Manhyia Palace.
Madam Dapaah had previously testified on March 12 that her personal jewelry, including diamond and gold pieces, was among the items stolen from her storage room at her Abelenkpe residence in 2023. In response to Gyamfi’s claim, she expressed surprise, stating, “My Lord, this has never happened; this is news to me. This is history to me.”

The lawyer further alleged that Madam Dapaah’s late brother, who held the position of Numoa Hene (a sub-chief) in the Ashanti Kingdom’s chieftaincy hierarchy, had unduly retained the jewelry and passed it on to her upon his death. Madam Dapaah refuted this claim and also noted that her residence lacked CCTV cameras at the time of the alleged theft.
This development adds complexity to the case, introducing questions about the provenance of the jewelry and the circumstances surrounding its alleged theft.
