“I’ve Experienced the Tough and Unpleasant Sides of Marriage Too” – Mavis Asante Reflects on 15 Years of Marriage
Marriage, like any meaningful institution, comes with its own share of challenges, misunderstandings, and seasons of growth. While some dwell on the struggles, others believe that with intention and commitment, it can become deeply rewarding.
For Ghanaian gospel musician Mavis Asante, her 15-year marital journey reflects that although marriage isn’t always smooth, it remains worth it.
In an exclusive interview with Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie on Hitz FM, Mavis spoke candidly about her experience, urging single women not to be discouraged by negative stories about marriage.

She admitted that the early years were emotionally demanding, filled with tears and difficult moments — experiences she says many women can relate to. However, she emphasized that those seasons did not define her entire journey.
“It hasn’t been easy, especially in the initial stages. It’s very tough. I’ve cried. I’ve had my fair share of all the ugly sides of marriage. I’ve been through everything any other woman will go through in marriage,” she revealed.

Mavis shared that a lesson from a book she once read helped shift her perspective during tough times. The book suggested that marriage improves with time a belief she held onto whenever challenges arose.

The ‘Aseda’ hitmaker also made it clear that certain lines have never been crossed in her home. She disclosed that her husband has never physically harmed her and noted that whenever she raises concerns, he makes a conscious effort to improve.
According to her, patience, understanding, and intentional effort from both partners have strengthened their bond over the years. She concluded by stressing that just like careers and businesses demand dedication, marriage requires the same deliberate commitment.
