It’s Very Expensive To Be A Gospel Artiste – Patience Nyarko
Gospel artiste Patience Nyarko has opened up about the growing financial challenges gospel musicians face in today’s music industry, describing the genre as an increasingly expensive venture.
According to her, unlike in the past when the emphasis was solely on delivering a divine message through songs, the modern music landscape demands much more. Gospel musicians are now expected to produce high-quality videos, invest heavily in their image and branding, and maintain strong visual appeal — all of which require substantial funding.

Nyarko stressed that without sponsors or investors, it is almost impossible for new gospel artistes to break through, which explains why the industry continues to be dominated by just a few established names.

She also highlighted the pressure of social media scrutiny, where artistes are judged not only by their music but also by their fashion choices and appearances.
“No matter how talented you are, you won’t remain in the limelight without financial investment in your brand. Social media has made it worse because expectations are so high — you can’t repeat clothes, you must always look good, and it all adds to the financial burden,” she explained.

Despite these challenges, Nyarko noted that the little revenue generated from streaming platforms and music sales has been a source of support, helping artistes sustain their careers and lifestyles.
