Investigation Uncovers 2,637 Missing ECG Containers At Tema Port
A joint investigative committee has located 2,637 containers consigned to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) that were previously reported missing—more than double the initially cited figure of 1,300.
Speaking to 3News.com, Richmond Rockson, Spokesperson and Head of Communications for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, confirmed that the containers were traced to various terminals within the Tema Port.

The investigation, spearheaded by a committee comprising National Security, the Ministry of Transport, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), and Customs, found as of April 30, 2025, that the containers were distributed as follows:
-
860 at Meridian Port Services
-
1,237 at GPHA Terminals
-
272 already evacuated by National Security
-
194 at Amaris Terminal
-
20 at ATLAS Manufacturing Terminal
Further analysis revealed that 2,437 of the containers had exceeded the 60-day clearance window, incurring substantial demurrage charges. ECG is now expected to work with port authorities to settle the outstanding fees.
In response to the findings, the Chief of Staff has ordered the immediate evacuation of all located containers to ECG’s secured warehouses. A full inventory is to be conducted to ensure accountability and proper documentation.
