The Ministry of the Interior has announced that Monday, September 22, will be observed as a statutory public holiday across Ghana to mark Founder’s Day.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry explained that the annual Founder’s Day celebration, which falls on Sunday, September 21, coincides with a weekend this year. As a result, President John Mahama has, by Executive Instrument, declared the following Monday as an additional holiday in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), as amended.

The Ministry emphasized that the decision ensures Ghanaians have the opportunity to fully participate in events and activities commemorating Founder’s Day, which honours the country’s independence leaders and their contribution to nation-building.

Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, who signed the statement, encouraged citizens across the country to observe the holiday and reflect on the values of patriotism, unity, and service to Ghana that the day represents.

Founder’s Day remains one of the key national holidays, celebrating the vision and sacrifices that led to Ghana’s independence.
