I’m Contesting For NPP Flagbearer Again; No One Can Stop Me – Kennedy Agyapong
Former Assin Central MP and influential New Patriotic Party (NPP) figure, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has boldly announced his intention to contest the party’s flagbearer race ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a defiant statement, Agyapong declared, “I am going to contest the NPP flagbearer race for the 2028 elections, and nobody can stop me!”
This marks his clearest indication yet of continued political ambition following his impressive second-place finish in the NPP’s 2023 presidential primaries, where he lost to current flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Agyapong’s 2024 campaign garnered widespread grassroots support, driven by his outspoken positions on corruption, governance, and economic self-reliance. His latest declaration is expected to reinvigorate his support base and spark early conversations within the NPP about its future leadership beyond 2024.
In the NPP’s 2023 Super Delegates Conference, Agyapong secured 14.30% of the vote, placing second behind Dr. Bawumia, who won with 61.47%. Despite the loss, his performance demonstrated notable influence and backing within the party’s ranks.

Political analysts suggest his announcement could intensify the succession dynamics and mobilize factions within the party well ahead of time.
