IGP Yohuno Apologizes To Bawku Naaba For Police-Youth Confrontation
Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has extended an apology to the Bawku Naaba after a police shooting incident led to one death and several injuries.
While visiting Bawku, Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno met with traditional leaders and key stakeholders on Friday, urging for calm and collaboration to restore peace in the region.
“We are here to work with you. In the course of our duties, mistakes may occasionally occur, but it’s important that we address them constructively so we can move forward together,” he said.

“It is my hope that we can unite to end the destruction—burning of houses, attacks on police posts, and similar incidents. We appeal to you, through the overlord, to engage the youth and encourage them to cease fire.”
He reaffirmed the security agencies’ commitment to maintaining order and called for continued public support in promoting peace.
“By the grace of God, I have come here to speak to my brothers and sisters—to assure you that the police, military, and other security services present in Bawku are here solely in the interest of peace,” the IGP stated.
He further revealed plans to give local youth priority in upcoming security recruitment initiatives.
“We want to assure you that during recruitment, the youth of Bawku will be given preference. A special team will be deployed here for targeted recruitment. I know how hardworking the people of this area are,” he added.
Stressing the importance of accountability, IGP Yohuno encouraged residents to report any misconduct by officers.
“If any officer acts wrongly, inform us immediately so we can remove them from the area. Let us know where we’re falling short so we can quickly make corrections,” he urged.
Concluding his address, the IGP expressed gratitude for the warm reception and issued a heartfelt appeal for calm:
“Thank you very much for welcoming us. I hope that if I sleep in Bawku tonight, I won’t hear any gunshots. I’m going to test it. If there’s silence for the next three nights, I’ll know you’ve received my message.”
