I Thought Social Media Was For ‘Maame Water’ – Piesie Esther
Award-winning Ghanaian gospel musician Piesie Esther has made a candid confession about her early perceptions of social media, revealing that she once believed it was a platform for “maame water” (a mythical water spirit often associated with negative spiritual connotations).
Speaking in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM on Monday, September 15, 2025, the Nyame Ye hitmaker admitted that she stayed away from social media for years because of this misconception.
“I honestly thought social media was just for ‘maame water’ people and things I shouldn’t involve myself in,” she said with a laugh. “Back then, I believed it wasn’t a place for gospel musicians, so I didn’t bother joining.”

Piesie Esther explained that her perspective has completely changed after seeing how powerful social media can be in spreading the gospel and promoting music.
“Now I’ve realized that social media is one of the best tools we have to share the word of God, inspire people, and also connect with fans around the world,” she said. “It’s not a bad place it’s about how you use it.”
