Celebrated gospel musician Diana Hamilton has revealed that although her songwriting is ultimately inspired by God, she sometimes pauses to applaud herself for the way she shapes those lyrics into powerful messages.

Speaking on The Career Trail on Joy Learning TV and Joy News, Diana described her creative process as one that flows directly from divine guidance.

“It’s God, God, and God alone. Sometimes I call my manager and say, ‘Today the lyrics aren’t coming,’ and then, out of nowhere, God drops a song into my spirit. It could be a message or just a chorus, and then I build on it,” she explained.

While humbly crediting God for the initial inspiration, Diana admitted she occasionally celebrates the artistry behind her own work.

“Sometimes, I clap for myself for certain lyrics I write. For example, in Meditation I wrote, ‘When I’m lost for words, may my heart do the talking.’ I had to pat myself on the back—because how can the heart talk? But it captures such a deep truth.”

Asked whether she has a personal favorite among her songs, Diana confessed she doesn’t, because each one carries a memory of where she was and what she was experiencing at the time.

She recalled:

  • Meditation took her back to lying in a hospital bed during the height of Covid.

  • Adom came after a conversation with her sister, who at first dismissed her idea before sharing a melody that became one of her most iconic songs.

  • Onwanwani was born during a worship experience session, when she prayed for a spontaneous song and received it on the spot.

“Every song is special to me, so I don’t have a favorite,” she emphasized. “Each one reflects a chapter in my journey—moments of faith, struggle, and gratitude.”

For Diana Hamilton, songwriting is more than music; it’s a sacred balance of divine inspiration and human creativity, where every lyric holds a story and every song becomes a testimony.
