According to him, it is disheartening to see the national broadcaster prioritize foreign productions over local content, which could help promote Ghanaian culture and talent.

Mikki Osei Berko emphasized that as the country’s national broadcaster, GBC has a duty to prioritize and promote local content.

However, he lamented that the station has followed the trend of private media houses by airing foreign programs, a move he believes is detrimental to the local movie industry and its stakeholders.

Speaking on Joy Prime’s Changes show with Roselyn Felli on Friday, February 21, 2025, he expressed his deep concern:

“A lot of TV stations show about 80% foreign content—even the national television station—and that is sad. It makes me shed tears anytime I see GBC showing foreign content. For what?” he questioned.

He pointed out that television stations in other countries, such as Nigeria, prioritize local content far more than Ghanaian stations do.

According to him, GBC has deviated from its original purpose by aligning its programming with private stations instead of championing Ghanaian culture and storytelling.

“For them, it’s just about money or entertainment. But we need to educate our people about ourselves and our culture. Our people must first understand who we are, and then we can take that identity to the world,” he emphasized.

Dada Boat firmly believes that the dominance of foreign content on Ghanaian media platforms is a major setback for the local industry, and he insists that this trend must be reversed to foster growth.

He urged the government to take an active role in addressing the issue by implementing effective policies and training programs to support the local industry and reduce these challenges.
