I Met My Husband At Nkrumah Circle – Mavis Asante

Gospel musician Mavis Asante has opened up about how she first met her husband, Prophet Abruku Abruka.

According to her, their paths crossed at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra when she went to pick up a parcel that had been sent from Kumasi. At the time, she had no idea he was a pastor until he later appeared at her church as a visiting preacher.

“We met at Circle. I was going for my fees. Back then, there was a Ford station just like the current VIP where people sent parcels. I went there to pick up a package from Kumasi, and he was also there for something. I was with someone who was waiting for me. He picked up his parcel before me, but we didn’t talk. After taking mine, I went back to meet my friend, and he happened to be chatting with her. She introduced us, but we didn’t exchange contacts,” she told Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime.

Months later, they met again this time at her church where he had been invited to preach. It was then she discovered he was a pastor, and that day they finally exchanged numbers.

“Four months later, he was invited to our church to preach, and that was when I realised he was a pastor. After the service, we exchanged contacts, and he called me that evening.”

They gradually built a strong friendship, speaking often. He eventually encouraged her to join the Mentor music reality show, a decision that helped launch her music career.

Mavis said she knew early on that he would be her husband, mainly because of how supportive and caring he was while they were still just friends.

“He’s a very good man and very supportive. He genuinely has my best interest at heart and hates to see me worried. He supported me greatly during Mentor, and I knew he was the right man for me.”

She added that she always had a feeling she would marry a pastor because most of the men who showed interest in her happened to be pastors. For that reason, she wasn’t surprised when she eventually discovered her husband was one.
