Narrating the encounter on his show, Adom-Otchere stated:
“My concern when I spoke to his team—and to him directly—was, ‘Chairman, why did you take $45 million from COCOBOD and not construct the road? What’s going on here?’

He responded, ‘Me? Have you ever heard of COCOBOD giving advance payments for road construction? You only receive payment after the road is completed. So, all these claims are just propaganda.’”

Adom-Otchere continued, “I then asked him about the cars. He replied that he had already disclosed to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) the identities of the people who sold him the cars. He said, ‘I bought all my cars here in Ghana. If anyone is claiming the cars are stolen, they should go and ask the sellers. What crime have I committed?’”

Chairman Wontumi was released from EOCO custody on June 2 after fulfilling his bail conditions, which were set at GHS50 million.

His arrest by EOCO followed a visit to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, May 27. According to his lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, Wontumi is scheduled to return to EOCO for further questioning on Wednesday, June 4, and again on Monday, June 9, 2025.
