I Financed Some Of My Projects During My Time At Highly Spiritual – Mr. Drew

Ghanaian artist Mr. Drew has revealed that his experience at Kaywa’s Highly Spiritual Music record label prepared him for the challenges in his career.

Mr. Drew explained that actively participating in various activities under the Highly Spiritual Music label made his transition smoother after leaving the company.

Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, he revealed that he even had to finance some of his own projects.

“I did fund some of the stuff while I was on the label,” he admitted.

When asked if this was part of the initial agreement, he simply responded, “No.”

He stated that he had no issue using his own money to cover some expenses because he believed in his vision and was determined to make things work for himself, even while being signed to a record label.

He added that there were certain things he wished he had known earlier before entering the music industry seven years ago.

“I think the business side of it. You actually need to learn a lot—the paperwork, the clearances, and even how your money will trickle in from different sources. Even after working with someone, understanding how to secure your earnings is crucial. There’s a lot to learn,” he told Kwame Dadzie.

He also mentioned that since his contract with Highly Spiritual was initially intended to be a 360 deal, he didn’t see the need to learn much about the business side of the industry at first.

However, he admitted that going independent as an artist has been a valuable learning experience.

“Once you get off the label, you learn a lot,” he said.
