Marcus Rashford says he feels “at home” after sealing a season-long loan move to Barcelona from Manchester United, with the Spanish champions holding an option to make the deal permanent for £30.3 million (€35 million) in 2026.

The 27-year-old forward becomes the first English player to join Barcelona since Gary Lineker in 1986. Rashford, who hasn’t featured for United since December 2024 after being sidelined by manager Ruben Amorim, spent the latter half of last season on loan at Aston Villa. In July, he was among five players who informed the club of their intention to leave.

Speaking to Barcelona’s YouTube channel, Rashford said:

“I’m very excited. This is a club where dreams come true and trophies are won. What the club represents means a lot to me. It already feels like home. One of the key reasons I came is because it feels like a family environment where talented players are encouraged to shine.”

He also praised head coach Hansi Flick, saying their conversations influenced his decision:

“What he achieved last season with a young team was incredible. His hunger to push further this season confirmed everything I believed about Barcelonait’s exactly what I hoped for. I’m eager to learn the Barça way.”

Barcelona will pay Rashford’s full wages during the loan period, following his agreement to take a pay cut. This move is expected to save Manchester United around £1415 million over the next year.

Rashford trained with his new Barcelona teammates on Tuesday and is expected to travel with the squad to Japan for their pre-season tour of Asia on Thursday.
