Helicopter Crash: President Mahama Rewards GHS 100k To Community Rescuers
President John Dramani Mahama has expressed profound gratitude to 13 residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedu who bravely recovered the bodies of eight victims from the tragic military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
On Wednesday, August 27, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, on behalf of the President, visited the community to commend the rescuers and deliver a package of support.

The devastating crash, which occurred in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve in the Adansi Akrofrom District, claimed the lives of eight senior government officials, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science and Technology Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

Speaking to residents, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah conveyed the President’s heartfelt appreciation:
“President Mahama asked me to represent him and thank the residents who helped us recover the bodies of our men. We have a plaque in your honour for the courageous role you played,” he said.
To recognize their efforts, government presented GHS100,000 to the 13 rescuers and an additional GHS20,000 to the Adansi Traditional Council for traditional rites.

Furthermore, President Mahama pledged lasting support for the community. Mr. Asiedu Nketiah announced that all 13 rescuers would be offered jobs suited to their skills, while also assuring that the government would fix the community’s road network.
“President Mahama has assured that your road will be fixed,” he added, stressing the administration’s commitment to improving lives in Sikaman-Brofoyedu.
