“He Escaped Through The Flames” – Brother Recounts Mawuli Semevo’s Tragic Last Moments In Fire Incident
Philip described how his brother bravely pushed through the flames, but sadly, he could not make it out safely. Despite efforts to save him, the intensity of the fire proved overwhelming.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze, while family, friends, and fans mourn the loss of the beloved veteran actor.
Philip explained, “Around 10:30 to 11:00 PM, I was home. I had just returned after filling gas cylinders when the lights went off briefly, then came back on. At one point, I went from the bedroom to check what was happening in the hall. When I went in, the hall was already engulfed in flames.”
He continued, “I went to turn off the power from the meter, suspecting that the fault might have come from the freezer. Everything was burning. I immediately called for help and contacted the fire service because there was no way we could handle the situation ourselves.”
Philip described how Mawuli, in a mix of fear and adrenaline, decided to brave the flames to escape. “I tried to open the door to the hall so we could both escape, but I couldn’t get it open. So, we decided to stay in the bedroom. Uncle Mawuli then left the bedroom to open the door to the hall. He eventually managed to open the door and passed through the flames. It was a mixture of adrenaline and fear that pushed him to go through the fire,” he told GHPage.
At one point, Philip considered using a rope to descend from the top floor, but the fire’s rapid spread made it impossible. “If the fire had reached the bedroom, we wouldn’t have stood a chance. For a moment, I thought about using a rope to descend the building rather than go through the flames,” he added.

His passing has deeply saddened the Ghanaian entertainment community, with many colleagues and admirers paying tribute to his legacy. Semevo’s impact on stage and screen will be remembered for years to come, as his work continues to inspire future generations of actors and filmmakers.
