The Government of Ghana has formally announced that Kotoka International Airport will revert to its former name, Accra International Airport. The announcement was made by the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of Transport, describing the move as an administrative step to restore the airport’s original and widely recognized designation.

The Ministry noted that the facility previously operated under the name Accra International Airport before it was later redesignated. Officials consider the decision a restoration of its historic identity, intended to promote uniformity and strengthen international recognition.

Authorities have reassured the public, aviation stakeholders, and international partners that the change is purely nominal and will not impact airport operations, safety measures, or travel procedures.

Notably, the airport’s code with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has consistently remained “ACC.” As a result, airlines, travel agencies, and passengers should not anticipate any interruptions to bookings, ticketing, or flight schedules.

Officials further emphasized that the transition process will be handled with precision to maintain clarity, accuracy, and operational continuity across the aviation sector.

The Ministry of Transport has therefore urged the public and all relevant stakeholders to cooperate with the appropriate authorities to ensure a smooth implementation.

Expressing gratitude for the ongoing support and understanding of partners and industry players, the Ministry reiterated that the renaming constitutes an administrative restoration rather than any structural or operational modification, underscoring Ghana’s dedication to stability, efficiency, and adherence to global aviation standards.
